The results are in for the February WisJEA Mini Contest! We were moved by the 17 entries that showcased the bonds, mentorships, and community connections that define our schools.
Capturing Community in Action: Madison East High School
Leander Pottinger and JoseMaria Barut of Madison East High School (advised by April van Buren) earned recognition for their video, “NextGen Fire Academy News Feature.” The judges were struck by the professional quality of the production, noting the “very smooth” transitions and the way personal anecdotes brought the story to life. It was a beautiful look at students stepping into leadership roles within our emergency services.
Service Through Storytelling: Hamilton High School
Abbie Dong of Hamilton High School (advised by Sarah Kowalske) was recognized for her print story, “Navigating AP Classes: Which One is the Best for You?” Abbie’s work proved that leadership often looks like helping others find their way. Judges praised her for connecting school-embedded elements to the community at large, calling the work “awesome” and “impactful.”
