The Wisconsin Senate Committee on Universities and Revenue held a hearing on Dec. 5 on the New Voices Bill (AB 551). Various advocates for the bill attended the hearing to testify in favor.
Among the supporters in attendance were WisJEA President Matthew Smith and Stoughton High School Junior Simon Mehring, who had advocated for the bill for over a year.
The bill was passed unanimously by the Wisconsin State Assembly on Nov. 7. Following the recent hearing by the Senate, the Bill now waits for approval from the committee before it can be considered by the full Senate.
