To encourage journalism and communication careers, the Kettle Moraine Press Association (KEMPA) will be awarding up to $3,000 in scholarships to 2025 graduates of member publications who will be majoring in journalism, photojournalism, communications, English, journalism education or similar areas at an accredited college or university.
All scholarship winners must carry the minimum number of credits needed to qualify as a full-time student. This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship. At least one of the college courses during the 2025-2026 school year must be in relation to that student’s progression toward one of the majors for which the scholarship is meant for.
All 2025 graduate who is a college-bound journalist from a KEMPA-member publication and who wishes to apply for a scholarship is encouraged to apply! All applicants must fill out a form found on the KEMPA Scholarship page.
Along with this application, you must include the following items:
- Academic transcript from the school at which you are currently enrolled
- Your publication adviser’s letter of recommendation
- Essay explaining your goals for the future
- Copies of no more than five published examples of your work. This might be yearbook or newspaper stories, layouts/photos, graphic designs or printouts of web stories for your publication
This year, KEMPA is requesting that all work is submitted in a PDF format! Applications and supporting material must be sent to Bob Kay, KEMPA scholarship chairperson at [email protected] by Friday, March 21. Winning students will be notified in early May, and the scholarship award should arrive to help with second semester expenses next year.
Best of luck to all applicants!
