Time to get started! The application for the WisJEA’s Wisconsin Journalist of the Year Contest is now open. All high school seniors with any type of student media experience are eligible to apply. The winner of our contest will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship and will also be entered into the National High School Journalist of the Year Competition. This competition awards $3,000 for the winner, and $1,000 for runners-up.
An online portfolio including the applicant’s work samples and explanations are required for the application – it is a good idea to get started as soon as possible because it can take some time to create the portfolio.
The application form must be submitted by Jan. 31, 2025. The winner of the contest will be informed and announced Feb. 15 . Lastly, the winning entry will be submitted to the National High School Journalist of the Year Competition on Mar. 15.
Requirements for the application include an official transcript or counselor’s note, a personal resume detailing student media experience, a letter of recommendation, a self-analytical essay and an online portfolio.
