The Kettle Moraine Press Association (KEMPA) has opened its individual contest categories for the 2022-23 school year. With a focus on excellence in scholastic journalism, the contest presents a golden opportunity for budding student journalists to showcase their talent across multiple disciplines.
The contest offers various categories, including News: Print & Online, Yearbook, Broadcast and Photography—the competition invites students to submit their individual works for a chance to compete against peers from member schools.
KEMPA emphasizes that this contest does not replace its yearly critique and competition for overall publications. Schools are encouraged to enter their publications separately.
The contest is entirely online, ensuring accessibility for all interested schools. Each institution is welcome to submit an unlimited number of individual entries.
To ensure impartial judgment, entries will be reviewed by qualified out-of-state experts in scholastic journalism, with no KEMPA members serving as judges. Awards include Best Of Show, Superior, Excellent and Honorable Mention for each category.
Winners will be announced at the KEMPA Fall Scholastic Journalism Conference in October. Winning works will also be published on KEMPA’s website, serving as models for aspiring journalists across the region.
For those eager to participate, KEMPA has provided comprehensive guidelines and materials. Specific instructions regarding deadlines, categories and submission procedures can be found here.
All entries must be submitted online via the Google Sheets form, with links set to public viewing. Physical submissions will not be accepted, and any entries failing to adhere to the rules will be disqualified.
The submission deadline is June 14th. Students are urged to seize this opportunity and showcase their journalistic skills.
