The New Voices Bill received unanimous approval by the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities. It now moves to the entire Assembly for a vote tomorrow.
The bill, (AB 551) was designed to protect the First Amendment rights of student journalists by allowing them greater freedom to report on issues without fear of censorship or administrative retribution.
To advocate for the approval of this bill, reach out to state representatives, both Senate and Assembly. Residents can find their representatives on the Wisconsin Legislature website.
In addition to reaching out to state representatives, supporters can publish editorials in local newspapers, blogs and social media platforms to raise awareness and advocate for the New Voices Bill.
